I can boot 9, but I have no way to make it recreate the problem, it just
happens.  Plus I'm a mac newb and only know OSX at this point, plus all my
apps are OSX apps, so I wouldn't want to stay in 9 for a full day or two to
see if it happens.

My brightness adjustment does work over the whole range.
