No disk spinning either. Have to reboot after that. Battery works fine
after that.

When you wake it up, do you hear any disk activity? Do you have an OS 9
partition and if so, did you try rebooting in 9 and try to see if it
behaves
the same?

Might be the PMU but there isn't any easy way to be sure, unfortunately...
