Morning all -

I have a teacher friend who lost (as in they stopped working) three laptops
in a 24hr period (see aside below for details). Needless to say he is not
a happy camper. I am trying to fix his Wallstreet so that he has something
to work on and from its' symptoms I believe that the PMU needs to be reset,
but pressing the reset combination written on the back doesn't seem to be
working. Could someone send me specific instructions? It would be much
appreciated. Or if you read the next paragraph with the specific symptoms
and have another idea, please let me know that too.

Specifically the symptoms of the Wallstreet are: Screen stays black, no
battery charge indication on the little lights on the side, no HD noise, no
chime, etc. Pressing the reset sequence written on the back results in the
PB alternating between the fan running at full speed with the green power
light on and, after pressing, the powerbook sitting there appearing totally
dead. Pressing the power button alone has not effect. I have removed the
battery and held down the reset sequence for a couple of minutes with no
effect other than that mentioned above. Any other ideas appreciated.

Aside: Three down, none to go. Computed #1 is an iBook that is covered
under Apple's recall program. The screen failed as is covered and I was
able to start it up in Firewire target disk mode and transfer his data to
comptuer # 2 - the Wallstreet mentioned above which worked for less than
24hrs. Apple is sending a box for the iBook which will be here on Monday.
Computer #3 is another iBook that we borrowed for his use from a lab cart of
ibooks at school (yes, with permission). Although we weren't able to get
his data off the Wallstreet, he was using this quite successfully until a
student tripped over the cord running from his desk and it slammed to the
floor. Now it's both dead and broken. Needless to say he isn't allowed to
borrow any more computers. Sorry for the length of this post, but I though
folks might be interested in the story and I could really use some help with
the Wallstreet. Thanks!
