Hmm, maybe the magnet is missing? I've ran a small paper clip on the palm rest, around the area you're suggesting and it never got stuck, so if the magnet should be there, then I would imagine that the small paper clip would stick, but it doesn't. I'll have to have a look later this evening, checking the older top case and the new one.
