Hi all,

Bob has some excellent suggestions in his message <snipped here for brevity>.

Luckily, you do not have to get a special ethernet cable for your computer as all PowerBooks since the Ti model have auto sensing ethernet ports. What this means is that you can use *any* ethernet cable (normal or crossover) to connect your PowerBook to anything and it will auto configure on the fly whether it's to a hub or to another machine. This one feature has saved my butt more times that I'd care to think of... I only carry a crossover cable in my bag because I might have to plug one machine into another that doesn't auto configure...

smiles,
Jamie

units that don't have the ability of auto-sensing the cable. But you
can't use a crossover cable to connect to an Ethernet hub, say at
your brother-in-law's house.
