I did buy the IBM/Toshiba TravelStar 40GB 5400rpm a little while ago. It's
very quiet and is quite faster than the 20GB that was in the Pismo when I
got it or the original 6 or 10GB. You should be able to find it for around
$100 these days, maybe less. You didn't get any error when you did the
format of the drive? Was that a long time ago? I'm talking about a format,
not an erase, BTW. FYI, I'm also using Verizon for my personal email address
and your problems must have been localized to your area because I didn't
notice any problem yesterday evening in the greater DC area...
