I am starting a new job and now head up the Marketing and Creative services.
I have the opportunity to request new hardware I feel we need. Since the
entire department currently runs all graphic work from Dells, I want to
request some Macs to simplify the graphics work and eliminate any design
shifts when going to prepress from conversion from Windows to Mac.

My question to the listers: I am considering a new G5, but the price of one
of these plus display, I can get 3 top of the line emacs. I understand the
power difference between the systems, but would it be so dramatic that we
could not work efficiently with emacs (or imacs) instead?

Another consideration would be Powerbooks, but here the price factor is not
as dramatic and we currently would not need mobility.

Graphics would consist of desktop publishing using full Adobe suite, (maybe
Quark), Macromedia Studio for web, and probably some light video editing
with Final Cut Express (this may change in future to include Final Cut Pro).

Any thoughts, or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Wayne
