Ok, ok ok. . .this is what I surf the web with on a regular basis. . .IE, Netscape, Firefox, Camino, and (used to) Safari. Out of all of 'em, Safari was my favorite 'cause of it's polished look and feel. It was quick, but I have to say it folks, IE has always been the fastest browser out of all of 'em. Now, the others may be faster when it comes to dial up or something slow, but the slowest connection I've had since '96 has been and average of 3M down and 384K up. Back then I had the equivalent of what would have been considered a T1 business connection of the day. These days, you can get that speed via ADSL for around $35 a month. (sigh, all the $$ I blew back then. . .).

Anyway, I'm not sure what is going on with Safari. . .but I think this is bigger than just one program. I'm surprised nobody asked what I was doing before I had problems. You see, EVERY program I have on my Mac ran PERFECTLY as of this morning. NEVER have I experienced a crash under Panther. But today, I decided to play with the Font Manager (related? I dunno. . .) , and I downloaded a bunch of really cool fonts. . .some of the ol' video game themes and more. I used font manager to install them. It was after that when Safari didn't want to boot anymore. . .all of a sudden. So, I deactivated the fonts in the manager. Same thing. Then all of a sudden my desktop FROZE. I have NEVER had an OS 9 experience in X before!! Anyone else? Did I download the first (gulp) virus on Mac in over three years?! (panting).

The next thing. . yea there was one more strange thing after that. . .was the program Konfabulator. For those not in the know, Konfabulator gives Panther users a small glimpse into what the Dashboard is going to be like in Tiger. Konfabulator runs in the background and doesn't bother anything. . .until after all the drama in the second paragraph. After I rebooted the system from the first OS X freeze I've ever seen, Konfabulator used over 80% of my CPU AT ALL TIMES. I couldn't believe this, but there it was, in plain english under Apple's Activity Monitor: % User: 78 - 98. . .all the while I'm not doing anything, but the computer is acting like I'm running Photoshop with 10 giant sized projects opened in it. So, I have removed Konfabulator from my system, deleted all the new fonts I downloaded, rebooted, crossed my fingers and. . .BLAST! . . .Safari still crashes. I give up. . .
