At my previous job I managed to get my way and get an TiBook 550 and I was both impressed and happy with it. I subsequently changed jobs to another non-Mac company and have yet again managed to get a Mac as my computer, an AlBook 1GHz.

The AlBook gets as hot as the TiBook :o(
I'm not surprised, both utilize the case as part of the heat sink, and a 1 Ghz G4 and that video chip both put out more than a few watts ...
The ports on the AlBook are placed in the stupidest of places, where I have my graphics tablet, the wires for network, my iPod etc. all lie across my tablet... :o(
serves you right for being a righty >:-)
This is really a 'can't win/can't win' situation for Apple (and everyone else who makes laptops..this issue happens with PC's as well). I (and many others) was always annoyed by the ports in back (that damned door always manages to gouge me under the fingernail) which is why they moved them to the side; on the side is far easier to get to, but no matter which side you put which ports on, they're going to piss off *some* portion of the population.
The majority of us are right-handed, so it makes sense to put the most-used connections on the right-hand side.
At least it's not that stupid dongle that Sony uses with some of their notebooks.
The screen suffers from the same keyboard imprint :o(
You're probably not going to find a laptop made today, Mac or PC that doesn't suffer from this, and certainly no laptop as thin as the Powerbook. It's an inevitable result of making thin laptops.
The only cure is to get into the habit of using protection when closing up the 'Book.
