I have an IBM Thinkpad that I have been using previously. I now want to transfer all of my data files (spreadsheets, docs, etc.) onto this Pismo. So, is there a way I can just transfer the files from my thinkpad to this pismo via infrared?

I've never tried infrared but here's another option that works between my Thinkpad 560 and my Lombard.
If you've got an 80 Mb PC card (or CF card and adapter) you should be able to write the files to the card on the thinkpad and read the card on the Pismo.
If you don't have a card I could loan you one for the transfer.
