Then neither will the profitability. IBM has been losing GOBS of money doing things this way.


This is why one of the first things Steve Jobs did when he came back to Apple was reduce the model line to 4. The complexity's crept up, and now the model line is 5 again, but it's a rational 5. Well, call it 5.5 with the eMac, but I expect the eMac is on it's way out.

I remember shopping for a laptop for out College Dean a few years back trying to sort out IBM's offerings. Whatta mess. (he's now supposed to get his 12" Powerbook any day now...)

Dell and Gateway are much the same: an assortment of boxes all slightly different.

NO one, it seems truly learned the Performa Lesson except Apple.
