It would also seem that if spamming really does pay, this undermines one of the foundations of classical economics, which is supposed to be based on the idea that buyers are rational people pursuing goals favorable to themselves.
don't forget PT Barnum's "There's a sucker born every minute" and the huge number of people who think they can get something for nothing.
Hell, even the Ni ger ian scammers are still duping the fools and their money.
