Hello All,

I¹ve got an iBook 2 or 3 years old:
G4 933 MHz
14 inch screen
640 MB Ram
OS 10.3.9
Airport Extreme

For a month or so I get the beach ball of death on startup. It boots all the
way, first I get the normal cursor arrow and then the beach ball starts
spinning. The battery time available on the menu bar shows ³calculating² and
never progresses to the hours remaining.

I can¹t get any program to start, they also hang.

Seems to happen whether I¹m on battery power or power adaptor.

I have to hold down the power button and force a restart. And then it works
fine.

But it doesn¹t happen when I plug into a hard wire Ethernet line at the
office. So I thought it could be the airport card, but it does it even if I
turn the card off before shutdown. When I restart, same old problem.

I¹m thinking that installing the software upgrades bit by bit might have
screwed something up. Maybe a clean install with the complete upgrade would
clean things up. But that¹s a lot of work and so I¹m willing to try other
options first.

I¹ve tried:
Running Disk Warrior
Repair Disk Permissions
Zapping Pram
Remove all unnecessary startup items.

I have a test user set up with no startup items, I logged out of my normal
user account and made my test account the main boot user. Same thing,
spinning beach ball.

Any thoughts?

TIA,

Geno
