You have to sign up if you want access to certain info but you don't
have to sign up for AppleCare in the sense of paying for it.
Although, I'm surprised you have to sign up to access that info. I
know if you want to join the discussion forum, you have to sign up;
but it's worth it to get info on stuff you wouldn't get otherwise.
I've gotten alot of info there myself. It's a good read the link I
gave you which you just get by going to apple info to download
iTunes. There's a link there to read. It might even be in the read
me that came with iTunes but maybe not.
