I don't how many have started using the up and coming new replacement
for Napster called KaZaA at http://www.kazaa.com because Napster is
dead or might as well be. Actually my son is using it but the odd
thing about that program is that it doesn't work on my 7300/ G3 400/1
sonnet. It just won't load. I originally thought it had to do with
the Graphic card because he uses the Beige G3 233 and I have 2
monitors using the iXMicro 8mb card and it loads fine on the iXmicro
card but when I moved Win95 over to the G3 side, it wouldn't load
either, even though I maxed the VRAM. But the 7300 also has the
ixMicro card but I wasn't using it, but when I moved it over to the
iXmicro card, it still wouldn't load. So I wonder if it's the Sonnet
card.
Basically KaZaa doesn't work so hot on the Beige G3 sound wise; it
stutters too much. I'm getting a 466 zif upgrade, so hopefully that
improves it but it might not. So I told him to just download the
MP3's on KaZaA and just drag and drop the files over to Mac's desktop
to play the MP3's which seems to satisfy him. Now on the PC, I only
have a 4mb card and KaZaA works fine.
It's hard to keep kid's interested in the Mac because it's so behind
all the time. The PC is definitely providing much more innovative
software than the Mac, particularly when it comes to Audio stuff and
that's what the kid's like. I'm trying to make Virtual PC work
because they want a PC. Kid's don't care about the interface. The
just like what it provides. The playstation succeed mostly because it
had great games. They're kid's. They adjust. I hope Apple comes with
some better answer than robbing the developers like Adobe and Roxio
and real audio like MS does.
