----------------------------
I have decided it is the motherboard that is unstable in this
Beige G3. Here is my logic. Tell me if you agree with me. I have
tried three hard drives. That eliminates the hard drive as the
problem. I have wiped every hard drive clean (Low Level Format
and/or write zeros) and installed OS 9.1 fresh and clean. That
eliminates software as the problem.
I had a Yamaha CD burner in it, plugged into the extra SCSI
port on the motherboard. I got intermittent "Connection is unstable"
messages from Toast when I tried to burn a CD. Changed out the SCSI
cable. Didn't help. Sometimes It will burn CD's for days. Then the
"Connection unstable" message. And sometimes it will burn a bootable
CD, other times that option is greyed out and not available.
So, if it is not the Yamaha or the SCSI cable, my conclusion
is that the motherboard itself is unstable. Which, if true, would
explain many of the other intermittent problems that don't stay
around long.
What do you think?
