Oh yeah, definitely no video capture! I just do play-through to the
display. And because the AV card is Apple technology, it can play-through
full screen on the display without taxing the CPU, memory, or PCI bus... I
tried the iXMicro Turbo TV PCI card on a PowerTower Pro and it works ok, but
it's quality for play-through doesn't even come close to the Apple stuff (I
suspect that Apple's AV technology doesn't work like 3rd party stuff - that
is, it doesn't stream the data through the PCI bus, CPU, memory, AND video
card. Apple's AV stuff must be tied to the video card so that it can bypass
all that stuff). Even the Aurora Fuse has to go through the system
architecture to display video on the screen... but that's not what it does
best, is it? The Fuse card compresses video to disk... The Apple cards all
stink at that.
In particular, the G3 AV personality card has a distinct disadvantage - it
loses sync between audio and video. I think I read somewhere in the TIL
that there is actually a hardware issue in the card that prevents ANY
capture from being in sync, independent of software used to capture. That's
pretty bad.
Finally, I have a _very_ good (think: $25) line on a MiroMotion DC30+ from a
friend that has two and has moved on to DV/Firewire making his analog stuff
useless.

What do you do with the video capabilities of your AV personality card on
your Beige G3? Make movies? I don't think it is capable of full-screen
capture? Is it? For $499.00 US you can an Aurora Fuse card. It rocks! I have
one on my Blue and White G3.
