The Apple Pentium 166 PC Compatibility Card works fine in a Beige G3.
PC Compatibility 1.6.4 is the correct package for this card. This is intended
for MacOSes up to and including 8.1 (which is probably what came with your
G3/266 MT; it did with mine).
MacOS 8.5 needs an easily available patch, PC Net Ext 1.6.4 for OT2.
There is a commercial product from Canada which claims to work in 8.5 an 9
without any patches. I tried this product in 8.5 and it did not work. I
removed this product and reinstalled PC Compatibility 1.6.4 and PC Net Ext
1.6.4 for OT2.
That commercial product is now "shelfware".
