Apparently the now out of business Newer Technologies tried it and
succeeded. The latest version of their free RAM upgrade utility GURU
(GUide to RAM Upgrades) says that you can put 768MBs in a 233MHz G3
Desktop. They wouldn't make this claim if they hadn't tested it
themselves.
