My new QuickSilver G4/733 has an IBM Deskstar, 40GB, made in Thailand July
2001. I've seen an older model G4/733 with an IBM Deskstar, 60GB, made in
Hungary February 2001. It will be interesting to see what the track record
has been a year from now.

The "Made in Hungary" drives are probably the earlier 75GXP model.

The "Made in Thailand" drives are probably the current 60GXP model.

Western Digital made a drive which was outwardly identical to an earlier IBM
model (earlier than the 75GXP and 60GXP) and these were made in Malaysia.

The only difference is the firmware, which reports "WD" as the manufacturer.

These drives were made using IBM-supplied tooling, and, except for the
firmware, which contains no IBM proprietary content, these are slightly
smaller in capacity than the otherwise identical IBM drive.
