Hi Chris.

Everything OK? Don't see you that much anymore on the lists.

Ahh end of the monopoly. That was the same here a few years ago when KPN's
(Royal Dutch Postal, Telegram and Phone Company [free translated]) was ended.
After the monopoly a lot of cheaper companies were allowed to sell bandwith
(phone/cable/ADSL etc) too.

Wow, that's screaming fast!

I have the fastest private affordable (not business) ADSL in Holland: a 1024 k
upload and a 256 k download. Means that if I d/l something on full speed from a
fast server that should be about 1024 Kbit/ 8= 128 kbyte per second.
And since ADSL always has an overhead of 20% my d/l speed is usually between
100-120 kb/s. I already thought that was screaming fast compared to my 56 k
modem which had a maximum of 7 kb/s (56/8) and you're planning to buy a 5000 k
line (also known as a 5 Mbit line)? Wow, that's a theoretically d/l speed of
625 kb/s!

In Holland exactly the same for regular phoning.

That's cheap for a very fast fiber optical line which you can use to surf on
the net and watch TV. I pay about $26 each month for use of the ADSL technology
(called Mxstream provided by KPN) and about $46 each month to my ADSL ISP
provider. That is $72 each month.
And I have to pay my regular phone costs besides that too.
Can you use that fiber optical line to use the phone too there? If not you
mustn't forget that you have to pay the costs for regular phone use also.

Had to read that a few times too understand (leap-frogging, hehe never heard
that before), but I must admit, very well said and I agree with you completely.

Europe is indeed still somewhat behind America where T3 is normal, but we're
getting there.

My advice is to wait the first month after September 30th and see what other
providers offer. Look for experience/ critics etc. from other people using
there new services. Maybe newer companies will provide even cheaper services.
But if I were you I would definitely go for fast ADSL.

I have done some Google searches for you and found some links for your
interest:
