BOTH, unfortunately. And remember that this is the Yosemite we're talking
about, not Beige G3.
The best way to see if you have a Rev 1 or Rev 2 logic board is to look at
the logic board itself. I don't remember the two different code numbers, but
you can check at www.xlr8yourmac.com, under G3 Q&A - I believe there's a
specific question "How do I tell if I have a Rev 1 logic board?"
I have a Rev 1 logic board, though I'd originally believed it was a Rev 2
because it had the individual drive sleds and the U-bracket. I only checked
after I started getting disk errors when opening large Photoshop files on my
new IBM 60GXP 40GB drive. A solution was to buy an ATA/66 IDE controller
(VST Ultratek, though I'd now recommend Sonnet), which has eliminated the
errors, speeded up data transfers considerably and allowed the use of
striped software raid arrays. The Ultratek seems to offer extra performance
on the Yosemite and Yikes, as per www.barefeats.com, while later G4's have
some logic board "defect" that prevents them from taking full advantage of
ATA/66 controllers. e.g., barefeats testing with the Ultratek in a Yikes
with 2 ATA/100 hard drives striped in a software raid showed transfer speeds
of over 60MB/sec, though only around 40 or 45MB/sec on Sawtooth G4's.
Note that VST still doesn't offer OS X support for the Ultratek. Also note
that Sonnet and others now have ATA/100 IDE controllers, as well as hardware
IDE raid controllers (which offer even faster performance). If you have a
G3, with or without G4 upgrade, adding a sure-to-be-discounted ATA/66
controller, together with a pair of IBM 60GXP drives, is a low-cost way to
boost performance (while saving up to buy a G4 in the future).
