Depends on what you are going to do with your pictures. I've been in
printing and publication-offset and newspapers-electronically for the last
15 years. A cheap scanner is OK for screen res. (72 dpi)-web stuff- and if
you aren't going to enlarge the pic more than 150-200%. If you intend to
send it to print, forget it.  There is simply not enough information to go
to cmyk and have any kind of detail, especially in the shadows.
