Had a similar problem myself over here.. Took the Plextor 8x4x32 out of
my PC and put it in place of my G3 (B&W) internal CD-Rom.. Well it
appeared to work fine. It would mount disks no problem and would even
boot from an OS 9 cd.. I was attempting to reinstall OS 9, it would get
about 25% on the progress bar and lock up.. Everytime I tried it..
Removed the Plextor, put the Apple CD-Rom back in and it installed just
fine.. I gave up on the Plextor, sold it to a friend and ended up buying
a Firewire Yamaha 16x10x40.. :)

A little off subject but, can anyone tell me what the speed of the
CD-Rom is in my B&W G3/350 Rev 1?? When I booted from a Mandrake Linux
CD, it detected it as a 10x but I would think that 24x was out when it
came out at least?? Also, since I cant order the drives from Apple, can
anyone recommend a good CD-Rom replacement?? I'd like to bump it up to a
40x or so..
