If you re-partition the drive, you'll essentially be initializing it
(erasing everything) which is why backups of the data is very important. :)

What I usually do is backup all my applications and files, and then go
through the system folder with a fine tooth comb, pulling out everything the
apps need from the system folder... Ie I have a backup for extensions, for
root-level system, preferences, etc....

Then install a fresh copy of 9.2.1 from the OS X install cd's on that
partition, and put all of your older system filesthat you backed up in it...
Then copy all of your apps and files over and boom you're gold.
