Given the similarities between cards, any chance that the firmware developed

The only hope of a firmware transplant would be from the Sonnet UATA/100
(Promise UATA/100 chipset) to the VST UltraTek 66 (also Promise UATA/66
chipset).

Both are built around the same cores: CPU, PCI bus interface, FLASH ROM
interface, which are independent of UATA/66 or UATA/100. The differences are
in the PCI bus to UATA/66 or UATA/100 interfaces.

Firmtek reportedly did the work on the ProMax TurboMax (ACARD UATA/33
chipset), but after that ACARD and Firmtek had a falling out and ACARD
decided to develop its own firmware, which was a bad move as it lost SoftRAID
compatibility, and numerous other compatibility problems arose.

Yet, these incompatibilities were apparent manageable, and Sonnet went to
ACARD for its SoftRAID-incompatible UATA/66 card ... but the true reason may
have been that VST had already beat Sonnet to a contract with Promise for its
UATA/66 card.

Now, VST is odd-man-out as Sonnet already beat VST to a contract with Promise
for its UATA/100 card.

Again, I have not physically seen Sonnet's UATA/100 card (Promise chipset,
Firmtek firmware), and the only card I am aware of which claims OS X
compatibility is Sonnet's UATA/66 card (ACARD chipset, ACARD firmware).
