Hey Len-

First of all, there probably isn't anything wrong with your machine... It is
probably more of a software issue... Creating good PDF's isn't always as
easy as adobe makes it sound. :(

You almost certainly have laserwriter 8 installed, but make sure you have it
selected in the chooser, rather then your normal print software.

Make sure you check the settings if you're using the PDF writer... Depending
on what you have in your file the settings could be trying to "optimize" the
graphics and making them look awful. If you're using .jpg's already in yoru
source, try making sure they are RGB and not CMYK... You'll also want "do
not substitute fonts" and "include font outlines" checked if possible... It
may be making bitmaps out of your text.


The best way I have found of making PDF's with quark is to print to a
postscript file, then run it through distiller.
