If you can, get firewire... Check www.deal-mac.com and you can usually find great deals on the not-quite-cutting-edge-speed models that are still-way-fast-enough-for-what-I-need. :) USB is fine, but the interface is fairly slow so the burn rates don't go as high as firewire drives, and it can be easier to move your drive to a pc or older computer if you have them lying around if it comes up. They really feel slow to me now.
