Prices have gone up a little, probably because the drive has become so popular due to problems creeping up with the 75GXP series (conflicting reports, but you should probably avoid that drive). Awhile back I got 4 IBM60GXP's for $104.00 each at www.newegg.com. Right now they are $130, with refurbished ones at $108. $130 for that drive is still a good deal- it's extremely quiet, extremely fast and extremely reliable. Others have reccomended it, you should listen to them. :) > Any opinions on this model vs. something else? My G4 stock drive is also an > IBM drive. The only other one I would go after from a price/performance ratio is the maxtor diamondmax series- great drives, but noiser than the 60gxp and whlie you probably won't have problems, they can be a little more problematic than the 60gxp. The 60gxp is just an awesome drive right now. > After loading OS 9.2 and OS X on the stock 20 gig drive, I've found myself > needing more space after venturing into video editing. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are doing normal DV video, a 5400rpm drive is just fine, the video codec normally doesn't go over 3megs a second... I've digitzed video over firewire with a wallstreet laptop/firewire card on a 4200rpm drive and had no problems whatsoever... You have a gigibit tower, but even with 90gigs of space if you are doing a lot of video you'llfind yourself getting cramped again soon- if you have a superdrive, remember you can also write to dvd discs (not movies) which can take off a LOT of video off of your computer and free space up. -- Michael Bryan Bell http://homepage.mac.com/michael_bell/ -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
