Hmmm. I'll have to try that before I actually go over to her place. So, just
firing up an FTP app automatically assigns the computers ("fake") IP
addresses (needed to do FTP) on a local network???
I once spent quite some time trying to get two computers to see each other
(for FTP purposes) over a cross-over cable without success (the connection
was fine because I could use AppleTalk at 100BT). I just never figured out
how to do the FTP over the direct link.
BTW I have all the FTP client and server software I need. I just need to
know how to get the computers to "see" each other for purposes of the FTP
transfer over a cross-over ethernet cable.

Won't be a problem since she doesn't have a hub! I think I'll try DAVE first
and resort to FTP over TCP/IP as a last ditch effort.
