Sorry to have kept you all waiting, caught a virus (me, not my Mac). Thanks
to all who replied and all who provided what I needed to test this further.

As of now the CD changer sorta works, but it's slow and not really usefull
(doesn't hum like the internal one though).

I tried a lot of different drivers, but the only one that will let me mount
more than one CD at a time is CD Rom Toolkit. Version 4.0.1 keept giving me
error messages about to little memory at start up. I found it weird (384 mb
real ram), tried turning off VM, having the Apple (both patched and not)
driver turned both on and off, but it didn't change anything.

The messages was:

1. Displayed while loading the extension:
"There was not enough available 'system heap' memory to allow full CD-ROM
acceleration this time. Try reducing the cache settings or removing some
other system extensions if this error occurs often"

2. Displayed when reaching the desktop:
"Caching will not be used on a CD-ROM drive because inadequate Ram memory
was available during startup. The drive's SCSI address is #"

The #2 message several times displayed the drive's # to be 2, even though
it was actually 4, but somewhere down the line, it somehow managed to get
it right, and it stayed that way.

What was unclear to me me was if the suggestion to reduce cache settings
was about the system or the CD-ROM Toolkit app. I felt uncomfortable about
changing my systems cache settings, and I found it to be backwards to
reduce the cache in the app (was set to 128k), so I never pursued that one
any further.

I got v. 3.0.2c, and it didn't complain about to little memory, but when I
lauched the app, I got the this message:
"CD disk caching has been turned off because your boot volume is HFS+"

Which made me think that this might also be the problem for v 4.0.1.

I keep my system on a 2 gb partition, so I'm going to try formatting it to
HFS when I get around to updating my system the next time. Without the
cache function the drive isn't much fun, as everytime I put in another one,
drag one out or open a new folder, it will start disc jockeying around with
all the discs in the drive, until it's been through them all.

Thanks again, and sorry for the late update
Tina
