verily on 2/11/01 7:56 AM, our learned friend Michael Bryan Bell residing at [EMAIL PROTECTED] thus spake this wisdom:
>> Wow - the disparity between the US and the UK is quite large it seems. PCs >> are way cheaper here and, if anything, Macs are much more expensive. > > You should see what mac's cost in australia... > > They're literally more than double the price of the US cost... My > girlfriend's little sister needed a computer, so I was trying to get her a > mac, but an entry level imac there costs $2100+. :( > You do apreciate don't you the exchange rate between $US and $A? Actually Macs in Australia are approx the same cost as in USA. Shipping and government taxes add on a bit more, but generally speaking Mac prices are comparable. Mac OSs from Apple here are actually cheaper than in US. OS X 10.1 here costs $A229 which is about $A30 cheaper than the US price of $US129 just on the base OS price alone, not counting shipping etc costs. I just checked the Apple Australia site and the entry level iMac is showing at $A 1895 which is very approx $US 950. Where we often lose out is when Apple drop their prices in US, for example recently on the Notebooks, the Australian reductions don't always match the US equivalent. Now, certain other items such as PCI cards and some software can be quite a bit cheaper if purchased in the USA and shipped here, even allowing for the dollar difference.
