I too liked IE 5.x, but it is the only browser (the only application, for
that matter) that freezes my Yosemite (whether OS 8.6, 9.04, 9.1, 9.2.1)
completely; not even a three-finger hard restart on my ADB keyboard works.
It is really a pain and I have now stopped using IE 5. In all fairness, I
should say that there may be a conflict between IE 5 and my Logitech optical
wheel mouse, as the serious crashes usually come when I click on something.
But I'd sooner give up IE 5 than give up the Logitech mouse. I do like IE
4.5.1 (the extra .1 is important) and use it on my Lombard with OS 8.6,
though its downside is that it doesn't support Text Clipping, which is my
preferred way to save bits of pages.

I'm now using Opera on the Yosemite and I like it; I've found it to be
faster than IE, Netscape 4.x or iCab. There are a couple of bugs to be
worked out, as Michael mentions here above, but at least it never causes a
crash. I too have to resort to IE 5 to access certain sites, for
transactions, etc. Can't wait for the final version of Opera.
