That's what I normally do. And 'Notepad' is known as 
clipboard (in Macs, anyways) or Notepad as in the
yellow Apple menu item (?). If something is inside the
clipboard, the Edit file selection "paste" is greyed
out (unless the text was copied from inside the open
browser).
