That's not necessarily true, Michael. There is a sea-change in philosophy going on amongst some quarters of the PC-using world, primarily amongst those who run Linux. In my involvement with first the Simi-Conejo Linux User Group, (http://www.sclug.org/) then with the San Fernando Valley Linux User Group (http://www.sfvlug.org/) I have seen that there is a new kind of user out there...one who believes that disposable PCs are a bad thing. >There is a TON of creative stuff going on in the PC world. So, SO much more >than is happening in the mac world. Case mods, software hacks, Linux, >internet technologies... The whole bit. > >Go look at the MYRIAD of hardware and tech sites that exist for the PC, the >tutorials on how to modify/change every single aspect of your system. Thing is, though, most of these sites are for GAMERS. The kind who push their systems to the limit by overclocking (disposable chips!) and a constant treadmill of upgrades. There is a dearth of sites about keeping older PCs and low-end new PCs running well and continuing to be productive. I signed on to write for Low End PC because there isn't a site like it anywhere on the Internet, and it has been needed for literally years. I will be writing my "Geek Speak" column for them, and doing it gladly. The first article will be out on Wednesday.
