I also own an AppleStudio 17" Monitor. Mine has a different problem, but this might be an EEPROM issue too.
I use to plug/unplug it quite often, to switch between my Mac and my PC. But these last days, it had a strange behavior. I plugged it to the PC, started the PC then discovered it only displayed 640*480 instead of 1280*1024. I thought Windows Me was the cause of that problem. The system panel showed a standard VGA monitor instead of "StudDisply17". I then hacked the windows system panel to think it's an "Apple 850AV Monitor" and then was able to restore 1280*1024 and other lost resolutions. Then I plugged the 17" back to the Mac and... AAAAAAAARGH!!!! .. Just discovered it was in 640*480. The MacOS (9.1) think it's a standard monitor. Only SwitchRes allows me to "force" other resolutions. So, there is a problem preventing the monitor from providing its ID*... The VGA connector doesn't look damaged. The cable looks fine too. * somebody told me that this ID is called "DDC". There's a thing in 17" OSD menu called "DDC" but it has always been on since I own that monitor. TIA, Martin. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
