thanks to mark, your mention of the stick got me to it. reminds me of when I sat dumbly for half an hour trying to work out how to prise open an dead Apple Design mouse and finally breaking out of frustration.
remove the sticker john ... got to it before Kurt replies, yup, squirted some electrical silicon grease in there and it is as new. which is a good thing because the shops wanted ten bucks for a replacement. of course, the PC shops wanted to sell me a new one for a hundred and fifty.
