Hello. My Beige G3 has started making loud noises....let me give you a little background...
The monitor I am using was shipped through USPS and the casing was busted...the monitor works so my dad just taped it up with electrical tape. When I hooked this monitor up to my G3 (which I bought on eBay before Christmas; it worked fine on the Power Macintosh 6100) it worked perfect! Since the end of February or beginning of March, the monitor start moving like it was having surges. ((left and right sides of screen slightly shrinking; lines, mainly in the middle of screen, running horizontally, etc.)) Do you know what I am talking about? I have very good surge protector on my computer set up and it has never been surged. Now, for the past few weeks, my computer will make a loud noise like a computer game rolling dice. At first it sounded like a fan about to start going and then as if someone stopped it and the gears were stripping. Now it is sounding like a dice roll. My dad checked it and there is nothing stopping the fan or in the way of something turning. It is coming from the right hand side of the computer, maybe behind the CD-Rom (24x) Internal. When the monitor surge-look is really bad, then I have been pretty accurate when the dice-roll is going to happen. It seems to happen when the monitor is giving the surge-look. WHAT IS IT? Could it be my motherboard going bad? My 4-Gig hard drive went bad so my dad put a 6-Gig in. ((Reason: When I saved something, it sounded like my hard drive was about to take off. LOL!) The Hard Drive replacement didn't stop the problem of the monitor surges or loud sounds. I would like a suggestion of what is going on from the techs on here...or someone who knows. :-) If you need to ask questions to better evaluate the problem, then I will gladly answer all you need to know. I would really like to know what it is and if a replacement is need so that it doesn't harm any other components, then I want to get it.
