Hello All

Have a puzzler here and looking for "help"

For my B&W G3 350, I purchased two each 256MB sticks from OWC to add to the
two each 128MB sticks that came with the machine( via e-bay) . The 256s
were labeled PC100 on the OWC attached bar code -warranty sticker . Also,
the P/N matches the shipping invoice P/N that I ordered. (BTW both sticks
do have unique OWC serial numbers)

The 256s are in slots J19, J20 , and the 128s are in slots J21 ,J22.
All has been working OK since end of February; first with the stock 350 G3
ZIF and later with a XLR8 ZIF upgrade to G4 500 .

TechTool Pro 3 RAM check is a "pass"

But a couple of days ago I downloaded a utility called DIMM First aid to
check the RAM type( 222,etc)

When I ran it, the printout identified :

the 256s as PC66 -222 :DIMM checks out OK
note "the number of column address bits is not compatible with newer macs"

the 128s as PC100-222 :DIMM checks out OK

My understanding is the the PC66 and PC100 designates the bus speed that
the RAM is designed for(?). Also,Per Apple, the RAM for the B&W ( a 100MHZ
bus speed machine) must be PC100

So, who do I believe. OWC or DIMM First Aid?

I guess the basic question is ; can a B&W G3 work with PC66 type RAM ?

Also 1, what bothers me is that although by box is "working" , did I get
what I paid for from OWC?

Also 2. Is there another utility that I can use a a check ?

thanks to all that reply

albert
