You open up the memory control panel in OS9.x and turn the Ram Disk feature on (you might also want to hold down the command and option keys as you open up the memory control panel and turn off the startup memory test, if you haven't done this already). Then drag the slider to the right until you get to the desired size; 50mb is usually plenty for IE and Netscape. Make sure the box "save contents of disk on shutdown" is checked. Then reboot the computer. When the computer reboots, you will see that the Ram Disk is now mounted on the desktop. Now, drag any of the apps that you want onto the Ram Disk. If you put IE and Netcape on the disk, make sure that to select the cache folder on the Ram Disk for any internet apps you have on the Ram Disk. This speeds up cached pages remarkably. Just remember to empty the cache folders every once in a while. All in all, this was probably the best thing I did to speed up the performance of the Beige. It is also really cool to have "silent" web surfing, as the HD never spins in normal use. It's really funny when you need to load a plug-in, and you have to wait for the hard drive to spin up, because it had gone to sleep!
