some isp's offer filtering at their end, although it's not perfect it
will block most things.  there are also several commercial programs that
will do it for you, in fact most porn sites mention this, many including
the names of the packages and even links, netnanny is one although i
don't know if it's mac compatible.  the other and best strategy is
simply to supervise kids using the computer or hope that you've raised
them "properly", after all, they'll be out alone in the world some day. 
from my experiences in college, the kids that get in the most trouble
and drink the most are usually the kids who were raised strictly and now
have no parent controlling them and haven't learned any self control, YMMV.
