Recently installed OS 9.0 on my G3 B&W 350. I also have an Hewlett Packard
Deskjet 870cxi hooked to this via a USB to serial port adapter. I have installed
and removed due to problems ( icons not appearing as they should, -37 errors
{MacErrors suggests that this is a'bdNamErr', 'there may be no bad
names in the
final system' :-) } drivers version 9.4 (HP sent me two 9.4 and I down loaded
another as far as I can find this is the most recent and compatible with
OS 9

I have a more recent driver for the UConnect USB to Serial port adapter, uConnect
version 5.0 2000 Momentum US Inc. reported to be compatible with OS 9.

Am I missing another piece of software?

Does OS 9 not like this set up?
I used an older UConnect driver with HP driver 9.4 & OS 8.6 with no
problems. OS
9 doesn't recognise that driver at all. It didn't appear in chooser the 2000
driver does but the HP printer icon has had two vertical lines through
it on the
occasions of reinstalling. as mentioned I have a few copies and have
tried these
too. No printing.

Might OS 9.1 make a difference?
(years ago a certain Performa 's OS was upgraded from 7 to 7.3 causing
many silly
problems, annoying but not difficult to work around 7.5 brought calm to the
scene) (QuarkXpress and Photoshop had some problems with OS 9 type2
errors etc.
sometimes at the splash page others almost at opening a document, then
none at
the next start up, cant find the offending font, there is plenty of
memory in any
case its clear at them moment) currently QuarkXpress needs to be
prompted a second
time after the splash page appears, to open a document. Therefore I
think it may
be the OS9?

As mentioned I have the two drivers installed and I'm getting a -37
error do I
need some thing else?

The printer is on, the various serial plugs have been unplugged and
plugged back
again. The offended programmes have been deinstalled and reinstalled as required.

Thank you
Deirdre
