I have an interesting symptom with my Blue and White G3 running OS 10.1.4. I hook up a firewire 100 Gig drive, and it says it doesn't recognize it. If I try to repair it, it says it needs repairing, but this doesn't seem to work. I tried the same drive on another person's G4, and everything seems to work, it initially said the same thing, but would erase the disk, and then it appeared on the desktop. Copying files to/from the disk appeared to work just fine.
I assume I may have a bad Firewire port. I tried using each port with the same results. However, I connect up a Digital Camcorder, and I am able to communicate with it, and receive digitized video. The audio however has a lot of noise in it when digitized. Is a bad firewire port the most likely cause? Can a bad firewire port be fixed? Can I add a new firewire port via a PCI card? Any suggestions for particular models? Do I have any other options? -- Dave Chelberg -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
