It is almost exactly the same length delay that OS9 gives doing the start up memory tests. I have it turned off in OS 9 , but have not figured out how to do this in OSX. It is rather disconcerting to look at a black screen during start up . It makes you want to do the three finger restart, thinking that something has gone wrong until finally the start up routine puts the graphics on the screen indicating that all is well and starting up ok. I have gotten more patient and wait for it now , but would love to figure out how to turn off whatever is causing the delay in OSX. I have tried Norton's 6, TTP3, Disk Warrior, FTW, and a host of others to defrag, Optomize , speedup, and otherwise to correct this, but since have decided that maybe this is one of those WYSIWYG's.
