well, either could be assumed, the dotster reply still doesn't say how it happened, only that the old owner knows how and why it happened, that's why i'd still like to hear "the rest of the story". but you may well be correct in your reading between the lines. i certainly didn't mean to imply that dotster was accepting guilt or that they were specifically trying to get it back, i used the phrase "sounds like they may have made a mistake and may be trying to rectify it". i was also reading between the lines, dotster's statement (as reprinted third hand) really doesn't lay down any new facts other than that they are trying to fix things, in some way, however it happened. all you or i can do is guess. i'd really, really like to know exactly what happened. i wonder if dan could contact the old owner to get some factual statement of exactly what went down and why and exactly how dotster is trying to fix things. in any case, i'm glad they were able to get macslash.org.
indeed, if it was the fault of the original owner of the macslash.com domain who was at fault i'd feel compelled to write dotster an apology letter, as i think others would as well (normally i'm inclined to take dan's statements at face value, he's a very reasonable and truth oriented guy from what i've seen). we still don't know anything, other than what was macslash.com is now at macslash.org, someone else now owns macslash.com, and that dotster is trying to be helpful for whatever reason. if it was all done properly then dotster is truly trying to be a good corporate citizen, something i'd applaud them for if i new that was the case. that's the problem with speculation (about facts, as opposed to the business practice of speculation), it's all guesses and it's easy to be wrong or assume too strongly that you must be right because you know how things usually go. (just as i assume i know the ramsey's, o.j. simpson, and condit are guilty, it's an assumption, i could be wrong, it's really only a strongly suspected guess, not fact that i can defend with information). please, if anyone has or can get factual information or a more complete account of the sequence of events i'd be grateful to them if they passed it on. i don't like to wrongly accuse and harass people who are in fact innocent. i like to know when i've made a mistake or even when someone else has so i can hopefully avoid repeating it. we all make mistakes, i'm usually more than happy to admit to mine. perhaps if macslash needs financial help to maintain the domain it might be appropriate for us to help them. i must admit i don't remember going to the site in question, but will certainly go to the new site since it seems dan thinks it's a good site.
