Turning TCP/IP on for the printer should not affect communication over AppleTalk. It is also another option for Macs to connect to the same printer. My several Macs (from a Duo running OS 8.1 to a G3 running OS 9.2) print faster to my network connected LaserWriter Select 360 over IP than they did over AppleTalk. The Windows XP machine also print via IP.
