Hi and Hello, My name is Ralph and today I become a member of the G-List =) old memberships were.... umaxlist- for my c600 and most recently a PCI-list member...
now that my B&W is in the mail Im almost there so I thought I would get an early jump. =) My first task and question is.... is it ok to install a reg version of os8.5/8.6 for my OS system or do I need an orig system disc from a B&W. the one I bought isnt coming with a OS disc. I have bersions 8.0 - X but I seem to prefer the 8.6 version.. is there going to be any benefit to going 9.2 ? It was hard giving up my 9600 / G3/ 450 but with the price and the 105% increase bus speed < ebay $285 minus HD/RAM/Video card (all transferable from my UmaxC600 - aside from memory) > my bus speed with the G3 upgrade was a puttering 45 mhz. So Im certain the B/W is going to be my new favorite mac model to date. past macs... IIc < in its carrying case in the closet > 6320 < now a T.V. > UmaxC600 < recently parted out > PPC9600 < the one Im using today > the Umax made me the low level tech that I am today =) , so most things I can figure out for myself. But I could use some advise to any tweaking or characteristics unique to the B/W's that I should know about. Here is what it has in it as I will receive it: Blue and White G3/400 < not sure what the backside is > Cd-DVD-rom and what ever else comes stock minus: -HD -Video card -Ram what I will add the day it arrives.... 8.4gb IBM EIDE HD < from my umax > Voodoo5 PCI / PC - rom flashed to MAC < from my umax > 450 mhz processor from my XCLR8 G3 carrier ZIF card OS8.6 - retail version -spare adb keyboard < till defective replacement USB imediaKEY returns from MacAlly > -USB Kensington 5btn optical mouse. -connecting earthlink DSL through a d-link704 router. what I would like to have if ANYONE has a spare is a B/W specific OS/software replacement disc. would also like some ram too =) but I think Ive found a pretty good deal at 1-800 memory. they have b/w specific sticks for 128/$19 and 256/$28 unless someone has something comparable they would like to part with. Any heads-up on anything I should know would be appreciated =) Thanks again Ralph ps. also,I assume since the processor is 400mhz that the mother board is the version 2 board.
