you can buy a non apple burner, but.... the dvd-r format isn't the same
as commercial dvd movies, it's a much shorter length and may or may not
work at all in most players.  another great piece of marketing
deception/technical confusion.  all the dvd-r is really good for is
shorter movies and backup, although the media is still too expensive for
backup.  burners that create the true dvd movie format are still going
for over $1000, last time i saw them a few months ago.  dvd movie
bootlegging is still a big dollar situation, which frankly is a good
thing.  copyright infringement is illegal, and is wrong and something
people need desperately to become more aware of.
