Go to your Apple store and find a demo G4 with Superdrive. Open Apple System Profiler, Devices and Volumes. Click the arrow by "DVD-RAM" or "SuperDrive" and chances are you will see a Pioneer model number identifying the installed SuperDrive.
Pay attentin to Phillip's note! I just went through the process of looking at SuperDrives and found the technology too young... no reliable standards... which I have already suffered from, having bought a dual 500 G4 with DVD-RAM and then finding I could not write to it, there is only one format disc it can use and I have not found anyplace to buy it yet - two years later! So I am stuck with a very expensive CD/DVD drive that can't write to anything. I finally bought a LaCie U&I to write to CD-R at high speed (Another issue with DVD-RAM- both read and write speeds are slower than snails.) With the LaCie, I supposedly can write video CDs that friends can play in their computers, though I haven't tested that yet (only bought it a couple days ago). >Hello everyone >Just a question about my G4 if I may. I was wondering if anyone knows >whether I would need to buy a superdrive to burn a DVD movie or if I >could buy a DVD burner/player that isn't a Mac one such as the Pioneer >DVD-R to do the same thing with iDVD software...??? > >Thanks in advance > >Katrina -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
