Paul:

If you have access to a DV camera, you can use export through the camera to
your VCR, with Firewire. You'd just have to convert your slideshow to a
Quicktime movie, and export out of iMovie. I'm no expert on DV stuff, but
I'm pretty sure that would work fine.
